Two people are dead and 116 more are injured after an Amtrak train traveling to Miami from New York collided with a freight train just 10 miles south of Columbia at a rail yard where the freight train was on a side loading track.
Attorney Dan Francis of our Railroad Litigation team at CR Legal Team , released this statement:
"Early This morning, February 4th, 2018 outside of Columbia SC, a southbound Amtrak train, traveling at a high speed, collided with a CSX freight train. Two deaths and multiple injuries to the passengers and crew have been reported.
This is another train collision that PTC or positive train control may have prevented. Amtrak has been reprimanded for having a poor safety policy placing crews and passengers at risk.
We have decades of experience helping train crews, conductors, stewards and other railroaders, Amtrak passengers and their families, recover compensation for the injuries caused by these tragic but preventable collisions. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the scene and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has stated that the Amtrak train was on the wrong side of the rails.
