Charlotte welcomed the public Bike Sharing program, Charlotte B-cycle, to the uptown vicinity over two months ago. Since beginning on August 1, the program has become very popular for commuters, people exploring the city, and those interested in health and wellness. The bike sharing system consists of 20 stations and 200 bicycles throughout the Uptown region, including surrounding neighborhoods from Johnson C. Smith University to Freedom Park. Some stations are so popular that the racks are often full.
The program is likely to expand, especially in areas such as the Fourth Ward.
To use the program, users can purchase a membership either online, through the B-cycle app, or at a B-station (they offer 24-Hour Passes or Annual Memberships), select a bike, ride to a destination (with a helmet of course), and return the bike to any B-station.
A list of all the stations available as well as further information about B-Cycle can be found here.
