While Labor Day may symbolize the end of summer, it is also known as the holiday that recognizes the contributions and achievements of American workers.
Labor Day is often celebrated with parties, parades or other events, but it is always important to keep safety in mind. State and local law enforcement officers and agencies across the state will join the Governor’s Highway Safety Program in kicking off the “Booze It and Lose It” Labor Day campaign. There will be enhanced checkpoints and more patrols until Labor Day across the state. The effort is aimed to reduce and remove impaired drivers from the road.
“Be responsible when you get behind the wheel,” said Secretary of Transportation Gene Conti. “If you choose to drink, then you need to find a designated driver.”
According to 2011 statistics, there were 565 alcohol-related crashed during the Labor Day holiday, resulting in 27 fatalities and 459 injuries.
